In boys basketball regional doubleheader action heard Saturday on the Sports Voice, it was Liberty Christian over North Decatur 64-48 in the 1A game at Greenfield-Central. The Chargers finish the season at 14-14…In the nightcap, Forest Park outlasted South Ripley 56-53 in the 2A regional at Seymour. The second-ranked Raiders end the season at 23-2.
Congratulations to South Ripley grad Trent Moorhead and the Hauser Jets. They beat Indy Lutheran 70-52 in the 1A regional at Martinsville. Moorhead, the son of South Ripley schools superintendent Rob Moorhead, and the Jets play Orleans in the 1A semi state at Seymour on Saturday morning.
The Batesville High School Track and Field teams had an overall successful performance at the indoor state qualifier meet at UIndy on Saturday night. The Bulldogs had first place finishes from the girls 4 x 800 meter relay team and the boys 4 x 400 meter relay team. BHS also had several top eight finishes. Several Bulldog individuals and relay teams qualified for the Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Meet on March 29 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
In college basketball, the Purdue Boilermakers are the four seed in Midwest Regional of the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers will play High Point in the first round in Providence, Rhode Island at 12:40 Thursday afternoon…The Indiana Hoosiers were snubbed by the tournament selection committee, and have turned down offers to play in the NIT and College Basketball Crown. IU ends coach Mike Woodson’s final season in Bloomington at 19-13.
Published reports indicate the Bengals have signed wide receivers Ja’marr Chase and Tee Higgins to four-year contract extensions. Chase agreed to $161 million, including $112 million guaranteed. The deal makes Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Higgins agreed to a $115 million deal that is guaranteed for the first two years.
In Cactus League baseball in Goodyear, Arizona, the Seattle Mariners dropped the Reds 8-3 in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. Cincinnati takes on Cleveland under the lights tonight at Goodyear Ballpark. Coverage on 103.9 WRBI begins at 8:50.
