Doris Theresa Heckler

Doris Theresa Heckler (nee Lehman), age 97, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Aurora, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March, 3, 2025.

She was born January 9, 1928, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Clarence and Josephine (Wilkens) Lehman.

On April 30, 1949, she married Paul Francis Heckler, her forever sweetheart and loving husband of 68 years who preceded her in death.

Doris was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Aurora, Indiana. She volunteered countless hours at the St. Vincent de Paul Pantry and also assisted in helping people with financial needs. She was a passionate gardener, gifted seamstress and a counted cross stitch master. She enjoyed travel, especially the Cotswolds in South West England and Butchart Gardens in British Columbia, Canada.

Doris cherished her family and being with them was the most important and joyful time of her life. She was a kind, loving, giving woman who touched many lives. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Doris is survived by her loving children; sons, Michael (Sandra Shaw) Heckler, David (Connie O’Brien) Heckler, Mark (Cheryl) Heckler, Luke (Nancy) Heckler; daughters, Ann (Ken) Fetzer, Paula Heckler, Amy Heckler; grandchildren, Jason (Renee Brown) Heckler, Brian (Holly) Heckler, Kevin Heckler, Kathryn (Michael Hull) Guittar, Andrew (Brooke Fraling) Heckler-White, Steven (Joshua Armstrong) Heckler, Paul (Karen Hilt) Heckler, Ethan (Shaelyn Catron) Heckler, Kyle Heckler, and Jaime Heckler; great-grandchildren, Joshua Heckler, Aiden Guittar, Mia Heckler-White and Ava Heckler-White; sibling; Sr. Ann Lehman, SC; brother-in-law (Harry) Joseph (Vundy) Heckler; sister in-laws, Rose Lehman and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings (and spouses); Mary Lou (Paul) Martin, Marvin (Leona) Lehman, Eugene Lehman, and Robert Lehman; brother- in- law; James (Virginia) Heckler, Luke J Heckler; sister-in-law, Mary J McErlane.

Friends will be received on Monday, March 10, 2025, from 10:00am-11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 203 Fourth Street, Aurora, IN 47001. Services will be held at the church immediately following visitation with Fr. Joseph Lehman officiating. Internment will be in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, IN. Afterwards, lunch will be served in the Activity Center behind St. Mary’s School.
