Norwell defeated Greensburg 53-44 in the Class 3A IHSAA girls basketball state championship heard Saturday evening on the Sports Voice from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Pirates were led by Leah West, who scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Teammate Claire Larrison added 13 points. The state runner-up Pirates finish the season at 27-1. West was named the 3A Patricia Roy Mental Attitude Award winner.

Oldenburg Academy senior Santiago Schutte and sophomore Nash King took part in the IHSAA boys swimming and diving state finals over the weekend at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. King finished sixth overall in the 500 freestyle and ninth in the 200 individual medley. Schutte swam in the 50 freestyle.

The Reds downed the Cubs 7-3  in Cactus League spring training baseball in Mesa, Arizona heard yesterday on 103.9 WRBI. Jake Fraley homered, drove in two and stole a base. Cincinnati takes on the Milwaukee Brewers tonight in Goodyear. Coverage begins at 7:50 on 103.9 WRBI.

In the NBA, it was the Pacers over the Chicago Bulls 127-113 last evening in downtown Indianapolis. Aaron Nesmith scored a career-high 27 points to lead Indiana. Tyrese Haliburton recorded a double double: 17 points and 12 assists. All five Pacers starters scored in double digits. Indiana goes to 34-25 on the year.

Two-time defending series champ Alex Palou took the checkered flag at IndyCar’s season opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg yesterday in Florida.
