The top-ranked Greensburg Pirates will play #9 Norwell for the Class 3A IHSAA girls basketball state championship this weekend after notching a pair of wins in semi-state games heard Saturday on WRBI. Greensburg dispatched #4 Evansville Central in the early game 83-71, and punched their ticket to Indianapolis with a 71-58 victory over Roncalli in the championship contest. The Pirates are 27-0 heading into Saturday evening’s state title game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Also heard Saturday on the Sports Voice, South Decatur’s historic season came to an end at the hands of #2 Borden, 64-26, in the Class 1A semi-state at Shelbyville. The Cougars finish with a record of 16-12.
In the only boys hoops game in the area on Saturday, Milan topped Jac-Cen-Del 70-58.
North Decatur got past Edinburgh 18-16 in girls 7th grade basketball on Saturday.
Bloomington South had the top team score at the IHSAA boys swimming and diving sectional, which took place at the East Central Natatorium. The host Aqua Trojans came in fourth, followed by fifth-place Greensburg, Oldenburg in sixth place, Milan was ninth, Batesville came in 11th and South Ripley finished 12th.

In college basketball, Indiana knocked off in-state rival Purdue 73-58 yesterday in Bloomington. The Hoosiers improve to 16-11 overall and 7-9 in the Big Ten; the 13th ranked Boilermakers have now lost four in a row and fall to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in conference play.
In the NBA, the Pacers topped the Los Angeles Clippers 129-111 last evening at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 29 points and 12 assists. The Pacers are back on the court tonight against the Denver Nuggets in downtown Indianapolis. Tipoff is at 7:00 on WRBI following Coaches Corner.
The Reds fell to the San Francisco Giants 5-2 in Cactus League exhibition play yesterday in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cincinnati takes on the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon in Goodyear. First pitch at 3:05.
