Robert Brewington, 86, Milan

Robert W. Brewington, 86, of Milan passed away at 11:40 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born near Milan on May 1, 1938, the son of Robert William and Mary Thelma Struckman Brewington. He was married to Jeanette Bohlke and his wife of 65 years survives. Other survivors include one son Joe (Holly) Brewington of Milan; one daughter Kathy Gray of Milan; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother Don (Sue) Brewington of Batesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert L. Brewington, his great-grandson Nolan Robert Gray, son-in-law Tom Gray, his brothers Tom and Dan Brewington, and his sisters Mary Ellen Smith, Valerie Smith, and Martha Waldron. Mr. Brewington was a 1956 graduate of Versailles High School and received his Bachelors degree in animal science from Purdue University in 1960. On April 23, 1961 Bob enlisted in the US Army and served as a 2nd Lt. with the 24th Transportation Company until his discharge on October 21, 1962. His working career spanned many years having worked as a supervisor and purchasing manager for Seagrams for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked as a nutritionist for Swisher Feeds in Illinois. Bob’ s heart was always on the farm, raising corn, soybeans, wheat, Christmas trees, and maintaining a cow herd for over 70 years. Even into his 80s, Bob was still farming 2100 acres with his grandsons Jacob and Thomas Gray. Bob spent 7 years as a member of the Ripley County SWCD and also served on the Ripley County Farm Service Agency Committee. He was always an advocate of no-till farming, timber stand improvement, and participated in the CRP program. Bob was named the Indiana Conservation Farmer of the Year in 2009.  He was also a supporter of 4-H and enjoyed assisting his grandchildren with their 4-H beef projects. His other hobbies included fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery at Moores Hill. Friends and family will gather at the Brewington Farm at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 22 for a celebration of Bob’s life. Memorials may be given to the Delaware Fire Department in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
