Sports Daily Digest January 31, 2025

East Central knocked off Connersville 46-42 in girls basketball heard last night on WRBI. The Trojans end the regular season at 10-11 and tied with the Spartans for second place in the EIAC at 5-2. Connersville goes into sectional play at 15-8.

In other girls hoops action last night, Class 3A #1 Greensburg completes a perfect regular season with a 61-37 win at Lawrenceburg. The Pirates finish at 21-0 and EIAC champions with a spotless 7-0 conference mark…Greensburg and Lawrenceburg will meet in the first round of the sectional Tuesday night in Tiger Town…Class 1A #7 Oldenburg crushed Switzerland County 56-29…and it was Shelbyville over North Decatur 47-23.

Jac-Cen-Del visits Oldenburg in boys basketball tonight on the Sports Voice. Coverage from the Feldhaus begins around 7:15.

Elsewhere, Batesville makes the short trip to North Decatur, East Central goes to Columbus East, Greensburg journeys to Lawrenceburg, Class 2A #3 South Ripley looks to stay undefeated against Connersville at the Spartan Bowl, Milan heads to Southwestern (Hanover), and South Decatur goes up against Class 1A #4 Hauser in Westport.

Diane Dierckman is back as Batesville High School’s head volleyball coach. Dierckman recently served as an assistant to former head coach Kateri Paul, and led the program for nine years starting in 2000. In her previous stint as head coach, Dierckman’s teams garnered four sectional titles, eight EIAC championships, nine Ripley County titles, and an overall record of 229-73.

Indiana and 10th ranked Purdue renew their Big 10 college basketball rivalry tonight in West Lafayette. Tipoff at Mackey Arena is at 8:00.
