Evelyn Louise Strubbe, age 81 Versailles

Evelyn Louise Strubbe, 81, of New Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Norton King’s Daughters’ Health in Madison, Indiana. Evelyn was born on July 22, 1943, at her family’s home in New Marion, the beloved daughter of Robert P. and Geneva Ilene (Campbell) Demaree.

Evelyn graduated from New Marion High School in 1961. On June 24, 1967, she married the love of her life, John Strubbe. Together, they shared a wonderful marriage of 55 years, traveling the countryside and creating countless cherished memories. John preceded her in death in January 2023.

Evelyn’s professional journey began at the U.S. Shoe Factory in Osgood, where she worked from 1964 to 1979. She then owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Versailles from 1979 until 1992, when Sears closed its catalog stores. Evelyn later worked at ADT Security and Defender in Batesville, retiring in 2012.

A devoted sister, aunt, and friend, Evelyn is survived by her brothers Robert (Barbara) Demaree of Satellite Beach, Florida, and sister Carol Evans of Versailles. She also leaves behind her loving nieces and nephews: Susan (Bob) Longmire of Lenexa, Kansas; Jane (Randy) Hammons of Canaan, Indiana; Douglas (Juliett) Demaree of Maitland, Florida; David (Regina) Demaree of New Jersey; Dennis (Elizabeth) Demaree of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Jeffrey (Kimberley) Demaree of Indianapolis, Indiana; Aaron (Deena) Demaree of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Robert (Angie) Demaree of Cross Plains, Indiana.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert P. and Geneva Ilene Demaree; her husband, John Strubbe; her twin brother, Merrill (Annette) Demaree; sisters Ruth (Ben) Mendenhall, Leah (Jim) Panarisi, and Sherla Leone Demaree.

Evelyn was a faithful member of New Marion Baptist Church. She cherished her faith, her family, and her community. Her kindness, warmth, and devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed.

In Evelyn’s memory, donations may be made to the Ripley County Humane Society or the New Marion Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Neal’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles, Indiana.
