Deputies responded to a Columbus Regional Hospital on a report of a domestic battery victim seeking treatment. Investigators determined that a female victim had injuries to her head, arms and neck. Derick Harris, 42, was later identified as their suspect.
Deputies tried to make contact with Harris at his home along South Lake Drive. Deputies spoke with Harris, but he refused to leave the home and he stopped communicating with officers. Deputies were able to restablish a connection over the phone.
