St. Leon, IN – The South Ripley Lady Raiders travelled to East Central to do battle with the Trojans over Thanksgiving break on Saturday in what would turn out to be a very competitive game.
Claire Samples got the scoring started in the first quarter for the Raiders, scoring 6 of the 8 points to conclude the quarter. Aubrey Werner added the other 2 points.
In the second quarter, Illana Prosser and Katie Miller got into the scoring column both with 3 points. Another bucket from Samples and this game was tightly contested at halftime. Effort from both teams on the defensive end showed heavily.
The Raiders and Trojans continued to battle as South Ripley scored 11 in the third to keep the game within striking distance. Ultimately, several crucial mistakes were made late in the game and the Raiders fell in a close one, 40-36.
Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was Claire Samples who filled up the book with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Aubrey Werner, Katie Miller, and Kaiya Rinear all added 6 points. Freshman, Illana Prosser contributed 3 points and Senior Lexi Franklin controlled the glass for the Raiders with 2 points and 8 rebounds.
With this loss, the Lady Raiders fall to 4-4 on the season. They will look to get back above .500 when they travel to North Decatur to take on the Chargers tonight, tipoff at 6 PM.
