Elwood “Woody” Amburgey, 78, of Sunman passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on August 23, 1946 in Colson, Kentucky as the son of Delza Sr. and Dallas (Slone) Amburgey. He married Charlotte Sparkman on July 3, 1968 and she survives.
Woody graduated from Carr Creek High School in Kentucky. After graduating from high school, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. He served with distinction during the Vietnam War and earned several commendations for his bravery and service. Woody spent many years working in construction and enjoyed woodworking and painting in his free time. He loved spending time with his family, whether working on projects or just being together. His family was everything to him, and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; son, Stephen (Renee) Amburgey; daughters: Lisa (Craig) Buffo and Misty (Mike) Gunter; grandchildren: Matthew, Ashley, Dahkota, Dascha, Dara, Catherine, Cayla, and Christopher; great-grandchildren: Stephen, Emma, Wesson, Jameson, Ava, Harvey, and Otto.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Darrell, Denzil, Agnal, Radford, MacArthur, Harold, Delza Jr. Billy, Christine and Annette.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Meyers Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Shawn Crisman officiating. Burial will follow at Little Memory Cemetery in Sunman with military honors conducted by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271.
