East Central junior Callie Bentley is All State in girls cross country for the second straight year after finishing in 20th place at Saturday’s IHSAA state finals in Terre Haute. The Trojan girls team came in 21st in the state. The top area finisher in the boys state finals was Greensburg junior Joe Hawkins, who came in 135th. Also running in Saturday’s state meet were Batesville seniors Jake Chapman and Kaylynn Bedel, and Gabe Riehle from Milan.
Lawrenceburg won the Class 2A girls soccer state championship on Saturday by outgunning Mishawaka Marian 4-1 on penalty kicks. It’s the first state title in program history. The Tigers Kelsey Offutt was named the Mental Attitude Award recipient. #2 Lawrenceburg finishes the season at 21-1.
The Batesville Middle School 7th grade boys basketball team won the South Ripley Invitational on Saturday by downing Greensburg 49-5 in the opening round, and pulled away from the host Raiders in the championship game 47-30…South Ripley won the 8th grade title by getting past Batesville 30-26. The Bulldogs slid past Greensburg 30-27 in the tourney opener.

In the NFL Sunday, the Bengals hammered the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24. Cincinnati wins at home for the first time this year. Joe Burrow threw for 251 yards and a career-tying five touchdown passes. Defensive end Trey Hendrickson notched a career-high four quarterback sacks and now leads the league with 11. The Bengals improve to 4-5 on the season…The Minnesota Vikings got past the visiting Colts 21-13 on Sunday Night Football. Indianapolis drops to 4-5.
Righthanded pitcher Emilio Pagan exercised his player option and will return to the Reds next season. Catcher Austin Wynns has elected to become a free agent.
The Indiana Fever has hired former Purdue star and 1995 Miss Indiana Basketball Stephanie White as head coach. White spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Connecticut Sun. She succeeds Christie Sides, who was fired by the Fever on October 27.
In the NBA, the Pacers are in Dallas tonight to face the Mavericks. Tipoff is at 9:45.
