(Batesville, IN) – Get ready to experience baseball like it was played more than a century ago.
An authentic vintage Base Ball game will be played this Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m. at historic Liberty Field in Batesville.
Players will be dressed in 19th-century uniforms, follow historic rules, and play without gloves, with plenty of gentlemanly spirit, and a touch of nostalgia.
The White River Base Ball Club from Strawton, IN will take on the 1869 Red Stockings in this family-friendly event that promises fun, history, and community spirit.
The Red Stockings are associated with the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.
A few local “Lumbermen” will act as “revolvers,” the free agents of the past, and play, as needed.
Organizers say attendees will be transported back to the days when the game was more about camaraderie and less about competition. This is your opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of a truly vintage experience, perfect for all ages.
It will be the first time Base Ball has been played in Batesville since 2021.
Admission is free, and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Refreshments will be available on-site at Liberty Park.
