UPDATE: Deadly I-74 Wreck Under Investigation

(St. Leon, IN) – One person was killed in a crash on eastbound I-74 near St. Leon that happened just before 7:00 Saturday morning.

The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office says a 17-year-old driver was going at a high rate of speed and failed to slow for the vehicle in front of him.

He hit the back of the car which caused his vehicle to flip and slide on its roof for an extended amount of time.

A back seat passenger, 18-year-old Jack Visjager of Cincinnati, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the unidentified driver and two others, 40-year-old Nicholas Schaeffer of Batesville and 30-year-old Brooklyn Fette of Sunman, were not seriously injured.

No charges have been filed.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by an Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionist, the St. Leon and New Trenton fire departments and Harrison, Ohio Fire and EMS.

(St. Leon, IN) – Police in Dearborn County are investigating a fatal accident that happened on eastbound I-74 near St. Leon Saturday morning.

All eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed between the St. Leon and Harrison-Brookville exits for about two hours during the initial investigation and cleanup.

No other information about the deadly crash had been released as of Monday morning.
