Larry James Brown, 83 of Greensburg passed peacefully at home on September 21, 2024. Born on June 29, 1941, Larry was an only child. Born to Robert and Catherine (Mount) Brown. He attended and graduated from Greensburg Community High School in 1959.
Larry served in the United States Army until he returned home and began working at Decatur County REMC where he would later retire. He returned to work as a groundskeeper at South Park Cemetery, and later drove for Campbell Enterprises. He was a long-time member of the Decatur County Fair board, the Eagles, and a loyal customer at Stones Family Restaurant.
He spent his final years with his loyal pet Sissy and watching his son, Jamie races his dirt track truck. He enjoyed keeping up his cabin on the hill, and his many nights a week in his favorite seat at Stones where he enjoyed catching up with the Johannigman family, various locals and often catching dinner with his own kids and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter Deborah (Gary) Richmond, son James (Melissa) Brown. His Grandchildren Derek (Jessica) Hunter, Tyler (Chelsie) Hunter, and Courtney (Eric) Meyer. His great-grandchildren Oliver, Henry, Hadley, and Hayden Hunter, Laynie, Lillian, and Salem Meyer that brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Catherine Brown, life partner Judy Warner and Grandson Caleb Brown.
A funeral service will take place at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 2-3pm, with visitation to follow until 7pm on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made through the funeral home, to Caleb’s Cause. Inurnment will be at the South Park Cemetery.
