(Versailles, IN) – The South Ripley School Board approved a resolution this week to join a lawsuit against the top social media outlets.
“We are joining with over 800 school districts across the country, and approximately 80 other Indiana schools districts including several in Southeastern Indiana, in a multi-litigant lawsuit against the social companies of Meta, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok, et al.,” said Superintendent Rob Moorhead.
“Through this lawsuit, the litigants are not saying that social media is bad, but instead they are saying that the way social media was marketed to children to get them addicted to these platforms was not appropriate,” Moorhead added. “I think anyone who has spent time in schools or any time around teenagers knows of the addiction to social media and how often they want to be on those platforms.”
Action on the litigation is not expected until sometime next year.
