Batesville Cross Country Competes in Ripley County Meet

The Batesville High School Cross Country team traveled to Jac-Cen-Del tonight to compete at the county meet. Although the heat came back a little bit towards the end of this week, the Bulldogs ran well and had all 7 of their varsity runners in the top 10 of the race, qualifying them for the All-County Team honors. In fact, the ladies finished with the ultimate perfect score of 15, with the 1st 5 runners placing 1st-5th, but they also had the next two spots as well. Yes, the lady dogs came through the finish line in 1 through 7, (actually 1-8, but you can only count the first 7). Senior Kaylynn Bedel claimed the individual County Champion trophy, outkicking her teammate, and winning by 8 seconds with a 21:32. Lexiyne Harris grabbed the County runner-up honors at 21:40. Then, Batesville had a nice little pack with Jayla Bedel, Paige Allgier, Samantha Adams, Hilary Ziegler and Caitlin Raver.  All these ladies were named to the All-County team. Bayleigh Demaree was the champion of the JV squad. So, the Bulldogs came away with the team championship with 15 points. South Ripley just beat out Jac-Cen-Del by one point 62-63. Congratulations ladies!

The boys were just as successful. For the individual championship, Milan’s Gabe Riehle and Batesville’s Jake Chapman battled throughout the race, but it was Gabe Rielhle winning down the stretch and being crowned the County Champion at 16:47. Jake was County runner up at 17:00. Cannon Clark just outkicked Milan’s Lucas Cooney for 3rd place (17:18). Isaac Trossman, Levi Essick, Cash Myers, and Jaden Basler came across the line next in 5th – 8th place, with Ethan Rahschulte getting the last spot in 10th qualifying for the All County Team. Leading the way for the JV squad was junior Landen Raver. With these performances, the boys scored a low score of 23 points beating Milan who had 42, and South Ripley with 70.

The Bulldogs only get a one-day break, then on Saturday morning, they will be heading to East Central for their invitational. The first race is at 8:30 (girls).
