Greensburg Cross Country Finish 10th at Franklin Invitational

The Greensburg cross country teams competed in the Franklin Invitational Saturday morning. After storms delayed the start of the meet by over an hour, Indian Creek’s Libby Dowty led the girl’s race from start to finish. The defending state champ ran 17:31.5 for the individual win. Columbus North placed five runners in the top ten. The Bulldogs were the team champion with 33 points. The Pirates placed tenth out of 16 schools in the team standings, moving their record to 8-10 on the season. All of the Greensburg runners had their best times of 2024. Alaina Bedel led the way placing 39th in 22:31.0. Tori Gauck placed 59th in 23:28.8. Brooke Welsh ran 26:01.1 while Alli Duncan finished in 27:17.8. Allison Kunze was Greensburg’s fifth runner finishing in 29:11.0. Avonlee Bohall completed her first high school 5 kilometer in 35:50.4.

In the boys’ competition, Columbus North’s Neal White won the race in 15:50.0, leading the Bulldogs to the team championship with only 16 pts. The Pirates earned tenth place out of 17 schools. Junior Joe Hawkins was the top finisher for Greensburg. He ran 16:43.4 competing in his first race of the season. Quinton Walker placed 58th in 18:21.3, and teammate Chase Tekulve was 94th in a season-best time of 19:29.3. Freshman Henry Corya broke 20:00 for the first time ever, running 19:40.3. Junior Xavier Cassis continued to improve in 2024 as he finished 19:50.9. Malakai Nicolaides ran 19:55.1 in his first race this year. Other Greensburg finishers included Conner Bedel (20:16.0 personal best), Brayden Emery (21:07.0), Luke Dwenger (21:13.0 personal best), Xavier Wade (22:08.9), Ethan Clifford (24:14.3), and Dylan Herpel (25:27.5 personal best).
