Rita Ann Meyer, 81, Greensburg

Rita Ann Meyer, 81, passed peacefully on August 23, 2024 at Aspen Place in Greensburg.

Rita was born on November 6,1942 in Greensburg to John and Elenora Kramer. The fourth of 14 children, she grew up in a loving and close-knit family.

On June 28, 1961, she married the love of her life, Howard “Bud” Meyer, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. For more than 60 years, the couple was inseparable, which is why it came as no surprise when she joined him in heaven just three months after his passing. Together, the couple loved dancing in the kitchen, enjoying coffee on the porch and going for long, country rides.

Together they had eight children – Marcia (Daryl) Kurtz, Marlene (Clint) Tichenor, Jenny (Bill) Gehring, Steve (Sharon) Meyer, Nicholas Meyer, Becky (Dan) Walter, Ted (Jaimie) Meyer, and Adam (Joleen) Meyer. Affectionately known as “Mam,” Rita had 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Rita was hard working with a heart of gold. You could show up at her house any time – night or day – and she’d greet you with the warmest welcome and a hospitality that’s second to none. She didn’t just offer her guests a drink or cup of coffee. When you came in her door, you better be prepared to sit down to a full meal complete with a homemade dessert. She was an excellent cook, and many of her children’s friends affectionately referred to her as “Saint Rita.”

From her flower beds to her home décor, Rita took great pride in everything she did and had a knack for making a house a home. She was classy and beautiful, and her grandchildren fondly remember her attention to detail in planning extravagant holiday celebrations.

A devout Catholic, she attended St. Mary’s Church and credited her deep faith in God with helping her through life’s struggles. Despite recently losing her husband and battling multiple health conditions, her strength and positivity inspired everyone she encountered.

Rita’s legacy will live on through her large and loving family, who will always cherish the memories they shared with her. Her dedication to her faith, family and friends will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
