Mary “Marty” Tekulve

Mary Martha “Marty” Tekulve, age 80 of Batesville, passed peacefully Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born November 15, 1943 in Batesville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Gilbert and Mae (Nee: Oswald) Decker. Marty married Thomas “Teck” Tekulve on October 7, 1967 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, Indiana.

Marty attended St. Louis School and remained close to her classmates throughout the years.  She then went off to high school attending Cardome Academy in Georgetown, Kentucky.  After graduation, Marty went to work for Dr. Aaron Peck as a dental assistant in Cincinnati. When Teck and Marty married they settled in Oldenburg and then moved to their current residence on West Pearl Street in Batesville. After raising their four children, Marty went back to work and joined the banking industry holding various positions for Home Federal Savings Bank and People’s Trust Company.

“Grammy”, as she was known to her grandkids, loved to teach and play cards as well as other games with her children, grandchildren and extended family. She enjoyed family vacations to Hilton Head Island, Florida and any other beach location. She was a fan of seafood especially lobster, scallops, shrimp and crab cakes.

At any family gathering, Marty could be found in the kitchen making sure everything was just right and there was plenty to eat. She would remain in the kitchen to ensure everyone was served before she would eat. Marty would remain in the kitchen until the last dish was cleaned when she would announce “the kitchen is closed” and would encourage everyone to engage in a lively conversation with a drink in hand.

She is survived by her husband Thomas Tekulve, sons Todd (Mari) Tekulve and Ted (Shannon) Tekulve both of Batesville, daughters Michelle (Greg) Pitstick and Melissa (Thad) Garver both of Cincinnati, sisters Kay Koppel, Cynthia Decker, and Diane Arnold, all of Batesville. Grandchildren Jake, Sam, Clare, and Thomas Pitstick; Ben, Molly, and Brad Tekulve; Sophia and Anna Garver and Isabelle Tekulve. She is preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Mae Decker.
