Mrs. Genevieve (Schwade) Sloan, age 80, of near Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on September 14, 1943 in Madison, Indiana to the late Eddie Schwade and Vera Jean (Roland) Smith. She was raised in Vevay, Indiana and was a 1962 graduate of the Vevay High School. Genevieve was united in marriage to Millard Carroll Sloan on June 23, 1962 in Madison, Indiana. They shared 46 years of marriage together and were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Greg. Genevieve was formerly employed for Western Auto in Vevay, Indiana for 15 years and Jack Sullivan Pharmacy in Vevay, Indiana for several years. She also ran a daycare at her home for several years. Genevieve was formerly employed for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana, Vevay IGA and Rickett’s Jewelry for several years. For the last several years, Genevieve was employed for the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and was an active member in the auxiliary’s. Genevieve was a 49 year member of the Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter #407. Genevieve was a member of the Markland Baptist Church in Markland, Indiana. She enjoyed water aerobics at the Switzerland County YMCA and spending time with her grandchildren. Genevieve passed away at 4:26 p.m., July 14, 2024, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Genevieve will be missed by her fiancé, Dan Oliver of near Moorefield, IN; her son, Greg Sloan of Terre Haute, IN; her grandchildren, Kaden Sloan and his wife, Ashley, Kelland Sloan and his companion, Avery and Carolyn Moore and her husband, Nicholas; her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Carly and Asher; her half-sister, Donna Robinson and her husband, Randy of Sunman, IN and her sister-in-law, Sally Schwade of Patriot, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Carroll Sloan, died October 8, 2008; her son, Jeffrey Carroll “Jeff” Sloan, died November 13, 2004; her father, Eddie Schwade; her mother, Vera Jean (Roland) Smith; her step-mother, Sheila Schwade; her step-father, Don Smith; her half-brothers, Donald Wayne Smith and Louis Schwade.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Auxiliary Services and Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2024, by Pastor Bobby Brundige, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
