Redlegs Up, Down, Strong, Weak… On Road Today, Playing Tuesday

St. LOUIS–  It looked like the Reds were up and down in big ways each direction in their 4-game weekend series.

Cincinnati managed to outscore the Cardinals 20 to 11 in St. Louis, but only came away with 2 wins, and lost the other 2 by shutout.  The Reds were all over ’em Thursday, chalking up 16 powerful hits, winning fairly easily at 11-4, but then looked totally different Friday, only making enough contact for 4 hits, and getting blanked 1-0.  Saturday, another onslaught the Cards couldn’t stop of 13 Cincy hits, that led to a 9-4 victory.  Looked good again, but Sunday came along and the Reds couldn’t muster more than 2 hits, losing 2-0 to close the series.

Second baseman Jonathan India says the squad can’t keep doing whatever it’s up to at the moment, if it wants to get some positive streaks going.  He says he figures, you can’t dominate one game, then take a step backward in the next.

And India seems to be leading by example on those words.  He finds himself now in a 3-way tie for the 2nd-longest streak since the turn of the 20th century, 1900, for consecutive games in which he’s hit a double.  His string currently stands at 8, and he’s in pretty good company.  Others with 8-game runs of doubles include the Cards’ Yadier Molina in 2016, and the Cubs’ Derrek Lee back in 2007.  The Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette hit doubles in 9 straight games, in 2019.  Can India keep it up at Yankee Stadium?  The Reds are off today, but begin a 3-game series there against the Pinstripers tomorrow night.
