(Decatur County, IN) – Several people called the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office yesterday to report they received phone calls from a Sgt. James Watson or Lt. Williams, claiming they are with the processing department.
Sheriff Bill Meyerrose says no one by either name is employed at the agency.
Upon returning the call to the number left by the caller, the voicemail greeting says it is from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, which Meyerrose says is also false.
You’re reminded that the sheriff’s office never contacts anyone by phone asking for money, payments of any kind or personal information.
If you receive such a call, you’re urged to hang up and contact the administration number at (812) 663-8125 to verify if the call is legitimate.
