The Reds are back on the diamond and the radio tonight, visiting the Brewers in Milwaukee for 3 games, first pitch at 8:10. Cincinnati’s just bubbling under a .500 record on the season with 33 wins and 35 losses, but the Brew Crew’s on top of it, at 40 & 28. So the Reds would love to knock ‘em off, especially in Wisconsin. And the pitching matchup’s huge– Hunter Greene of the Reds 4 & 2 on the season, ERA 3.61, the Brewers’ Freddy Peralta at 4 & 3, his earned run average 4.65. But if you just look at the last 4 games, Hunter’s been really sharp at 4 & 0, ERA down to 3.08. We’ll keep you advised as to exactly when 22-year-old 3rd baseman and Number 2 Reds prospect Noelvi Marte makes his way back to the major-league roster. His rehab assignment with the Louisville Bats in Triple-A continues, as he finishes off an 80-game suspension for a steroid Marte claims to have known nothing about. Reds Manager David Bell says the youngster’s good to go, so when he’s available, he’ll immediately play full games, not just an inning here or there. Marte will be eligible to rejoin the Reds around the 27th, when they’re in St. Louis.
Best luck this weekend of course to rising senior Batesville high jumper Ayden Eckstein. He’s going to be in Philadelphia, at the Outdoor Nationals track meet he qualified for last weekend, reportedly jumping higher than the 6’6″ he recorded at the state meet in Bloomington a couple weeks ago. Results are in from Milan Aquatics’ Wednesday swim meet. At the Y pool in Vevay, Milan faced Switzerland County, and even with a smaller squad than usual, Milan smoked ‘em, final score 460 to 290, the Indians taking 7 of the event’s 11 relay races. Winning 4 individual races each were Ava Mutz, Brody and Taylor Stock, and Caiden Felver. Alexis Schiller won 3, and these young people- Archer Austin, Averi Jones, Cooper Mutz, Levi DeWire, Molly Knecht, and Alice Austin- each won 2 events. The coaches say multiple Milan swimmers also set new personal records in that meet– a huge night Wednesday. Next for Milan, they’ll take on Hidden Valley Lake at home Monday, then travel to South Dearborn next Wednesday.
Women’s pro basketball last night saw the Indiana Fever really battle, leading the Atlanta Dream by 11 going into the 4th quarter, but then having that lead erode,‘til Indiana trailed by a point with a bit over 2 minutes left. The heroines of the game, Alyiah Boston, who battled for the rebound after a missed 3-pointer and put it back in for 2, and Kelsey Mitchell, who stole the ball late and scored an impressive reverse layup, putting the Fever up to stay as they grabbed a 91-84 victory. Caitlin Clark didn’t really figure in the game, but Boston ended up with 27 points, in the Fever’s 4th win of the season.
