With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and friend. Dennis Lee Sanders, 69, of Versailles passed away at Margaret Mary Hospital on Monday, June 10. He was born November 09, 1954 to Mary and Raymond Sanders in Batesville, IN. He was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley.
He was married to Lisa Sanders on February 19, 1994. Together they shared four children Amy Sanders Williams (Rick Osborne) of Versailles, Tammy Sanders Shaw (Ron Back) of Brookville, Justin (Melissa) Sanders of Osgood who he shared with Brenda Schwagmeier Sanders, and Megan Smith of Versailles, the daughter of Lisa. Together their families were joined as one where they shared many memories together as a blended family full of acceptance and unconditional love. Along with his wife and children, he is also survived by his grandchildren whom he loved dearly Trey, Tanner, Allie, Abigail, and Ryker; Sisters Linda (Charlie) Shockey of Indianapolis and Patty Renfro of Greensburg; Numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike Sanders.
Dennis proudly served his country as a Marine from 1973 through 1977, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. After his military service, he began a long career at Jefferson Proving Ground, where his work and dedication left a lasting impact as well as the friendships he created there. Following his early retirement from there, Dennis continued to serve his community through his roles at the Ripley County Sherriff’s Office, where he worked as a Jailer and Special Deputy. He also worked at Halcomb’s Home Center for a brief period of time. He finished his working career at the Versailles Quarry before his final retirement.
Dennis’ life was a testament to hard work and love for his family. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, joke telling, orneriness, and overall ability to make others laugh.
Dennis’ wishes were to be cremated following his visitation on Thursday evening, June 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. An American Legion presentation will follow the visitation.
