Naomi Scranton

Naomi Zella (Shelp) Baker Scranton, 94, of Milan, Indiana formerly of Greendale, Indiana passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024.

She was born May 18, 1930, in Rexville, IN, daughter of the late Henry Shelp Sr. and Nettie (Downey) Shelp.

Naomi worked as a Packer Inspector for Thatcher Glass, retiring after over 32 years of service. She was a volunteer for RSVP.

Naomi enjoyed baking to make people happy. She was known to deliver her baked goods to the Police, and Fire Department in Greendale. She also delivered to the Lawrenceburg Post office, the teachers at South Dearborn Middle School, and other businesses. She was affectionately known as the “cookie lady”. Naomi loved dark chocolate, and she enjoyed watching hummingbirds. Naomi loved people and enjoyed making them smile. She was a people magnet because of her fun loving and humorous ways. She had a great sense of humor and was a story teller. All of her grandkids received a birthday card each year with a piece of Fruit Stripe gum and a story that she wrote. She is going to be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Naomi is survived by her children, Janice “Diane” (William) Benning of Aurora, IN, Eldon Eugene (Peggy) Baker of Greendale, IN, Cynthia Louise (Martin) Bruegge of Aurora, IN, Betsy Ann Hutcherson of Greendale, IN, Merry Renee (Rick) Heist of Dublin, CA, Terry Lynn (Debra) Baker of Greendale, IN, and Tammy Jo (Jack) DeRosier of DeRidder, LA; Many, many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Sr. and Nettie Shelp; son, William Nicholas Baker; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Friends will be received Saturday, June 1, 2024, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, IN.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 12:00 pm with William Benning officiating.

Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, IN.
