Word just came in Friday afternoon, on regional high school softball matchups. One of them will pit North Decatur, the Class 1A Sectional 60 champions, against Indianapolis Lutheran in Regional 30, and the Chargers will be hosting. The game’s set for 6:00 Tuesday evening on their home diamond behind North Decatur Elementary.
Also moving on to the regionals, 3A will see the winner of Friday’s Sectional 29 championship game, either Franklin County or Connersville, advance to play in Regional 15 at Silver Creek, and you’ll hear that sectional game around 5:45 on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI.
And Class 4A Regional 7 will have Center Grove visiting East Central.
All of the 1-game regional round will be played Tuesday, then the 4-team semi-states happen on Saturday June 1st. The 4 state championship softball games will be played the 9th & 10th, at Purdue’s Bittinger Stadium.
Congratulations to all those squads… the baseball sectionals continue through Memorial Day Monday. Tonight at 6, Franklin Community plays East Central in Class 4A Sectional 14 at Shelbyville, and here on the Sports Voice, 103.9 WRBI, at 5:45.
Saturday night, 3A Sectional 29 at Lawrenceburg pits Greensburg against Connersville at 6:00, followed at 8 by Batesville and Franklin County. Join us for the Pirates, Spartans, Bulldogs and Wildcats Saturday evening on WRBI, again about 5:45.
2A Sectional 45 Monday at South Ripley will see Milan up against Hauser at 10:00 am. Also at 10 that holiday morning, it’ll be Class 1A Sectional 60 at Jac-Cen-Del, where South Decatur will take on Waldron, followed around 12:30 by North Decatur and Southwestern Shelby.
For 2 hours at midday Friday in Indianapolis, drivers got their final practice in for Sunday’s 108th 500-mile race. The rest of the Carb Day afternoon was dedicated to fun, with the crew competition the Pit Stop Challenge, and with a big concert from the Gin Blossoms and George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Fans can get autographs from their favorite drivers Saturday morning. And looking toward the skies, Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials continue to plan for the possibility of rain on Sunday.
In the major leagues Friday night, the Reds open a new series against the Dodgers.
Saturday, the Pacers hope to take game 3 of their NBA Eastern Conference Finals series against the Celtics at home, after dropping the first two on the road. Tipoff set for 8:30 that night.
