Winfred Thomas “Winnie” Carpenter, 82, of Milan passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Ripley Crossing with his loving family by his side. Winnie was born on Saturday, September 6, 1941, in Lexington; son of John Carpenter and Frances (Hamilton) Hayes. Winnie married the love of his life, Vicky (Carter) Carpenter, on December 27, 1988, and she preceded him on June 17, 2023. Winnie served in the United States Army and was a member of the Moores Hill American Legion Post #209. He worked as an electrician in the Local Union #369. He enjoyed classic cars, music, and was an Elvis fan. Winnie also loved all his dogs that he has had throughout his life. Most of all Winnie loved his family and cherished spending time with them.
Winnie will be missed by his children Mark Carpenter of Winchester, KY, Tina (Jimmy) Ellison of Corbin, KY, Sharon (Mike) Cooper of LaVergne, TN, Tonia Richter of Sunman, DJ Richter of Aurora, Sherry (Brian) Butler of Milan, and Brook (Michael) Wright of Georgetown, KY; brother Johnny (Janice) Carpenter of Fort Wayne; sister Debbie Hayes Thomas of Spain; nephews Doug, Shannon, and Bradley Thomas; niece Katy Thomas Pine; grandchildren Tanner, Aeden, Carter, Windy, Justin, Destiny, Desirae, McKenzie, and Savannah; and great-grandchildren Austin, Aaron, Eli, Oliver, Abel, Greyson, and Ari.
Winnie was preceded in death by his parents John Carpenter and Frances Hayes; stepfather Brad Hayes; wife Vicky Carpenter; and sister Gina Faye Hayes.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service will follow at 11:00 AM with John Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at The Lexington Cemetery; 833 West Main Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508. Memorials may be given in honor of Winnie to PAWS of Dearborn County or Stray Haven.
