The Fever fell to 0-1 after a 92-71 loss to the dominant and physical Connecticut Sun Tuesday night. Caitlin Clark had her welcome to the WNBA moment very quickly. Even though she scored 20 points, she went 5-15 from the floor going 4-11 on threes. The big question mark on her debut was the fact that she had 10 turnovers. The team overall had 25 which makes it extremely hard to win a basketball game. After the game, Clark said she has to be crisper. She pointed to the Sun’s great defensive pressure and physicality and how she will have to adjust to that when it comes to the WNBA compared to her games at Iowa. Despite the up-and-down effort Clark still led the team in scoring and is hoping to build on that going into their next game.
The Sun were led by Dewanna Bonner who had 20 points and 6 rebounds. She moved into the WNBA top 5 all-time career scoring list Tuesday night.
Looking ahead, the Fever will take on the New York Liberty tonight at 7 p.m. on Amazon Prime Video. The Liberty coming off a WNBA finals appearance last year, and a win Tuesday night have their own stars in Sabrina Ionescu and last season’s MVP Breanna Stewart. It looks to be a tough matchup for the Fever, but if you enjoy watching talented women’s basketball this is the game to watch.
