Evelyn D. Bascom, 92, of Dillsboro, IN, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Florence, KY.
She was born June 14, 1931, in Milan, Indiana, daughter of the late Martin H. Westmeyer and Matilda (Rump) Westmeyer.
Evelyn was a life time member of St John Lutheran Church Farmer’s Retreat. She played the organ from the age of 13 until she was 80 on and off at St. Johns Farmers Retreat and St. Paul Dewberry. Her faith was very important to her, and her music was her ministry.
She was a longtime waitress at the Union 76 station at Lake Dilldear, in Dillsboro, Indiana. She raised 4 children and baby sat for many others. Evelyn collected purses and dolls. She loved to socialize, and eat out. Family time was most precious to Evelyn.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Carol Lee (Eddie) Fraley of Milan, IN, Anita (David) Longcamp of Aurora, IN; sons, Eric (Shari) Bascom of Shilo, OH, Dana (Rebecca) Bascom of Dillsboro, IN; grandchildren, Stephanie Shaffer, Christine Fraley, Cynthia Rogier, Garrett Bascom, Alex Longcamp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Matilda Westmeyer; her loving husband of 38 years, Robert Bascom; brother, Paul Westmeyer.
Friends will be received Thursday, April 25, 2024, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the St. John Lutheran Church in Farmer’s Retreat, 7291 St. Rt. 62, Dillsboro, IN.
Services will be held at the church at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery Farmers Retreat, Dillsboro, IN.
