John Herbert Haas, of Bath, was born on January 1, 1940, in Gobblers Knob, Indiana, a son to William and Esther Kunkel Haas. He graduated from Talawanda High School and later married Jeanette Ponder on April 27, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, Ohio. John owned and operated the Bath Store for many years while farming. He also built hundreds of grain bins in the tri-state area in the summer. Winters were spent in Tavares, Florida riding his bicycle and taking golf cart rides to find the alligators. He also threw a lot of corn hole, ate many hot dogs, and drank a few cold ones with the men of Imperial Terrace West. John was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, and enjoyed Farmall tractors, playing pitch and watching his 3 grandsons play sports. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Bath Conservation Club and the Order of Redmen. On Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 84 he passed away at Whitewater Commons in Liberty.
Those surviving who will cherish John’s memory include his loving wife of almost 56 years, Jeanette Haas; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Ron Webb; daughter-in-law, Ann Haas and husband, Jeff Powers, and grandsons, Jake (Emily) Webb, Nate (fiancé Tori Evans) and Luke Haas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Haas; one brother, Bill Haas and sisters, Marjorie Fohl, Carol Hannah, Shirley Falk and Marilyn Haas.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angel’s Oratory, 405 US Highway 52, Cedar Grove, Indiana. Father Vincent Lampert will officiate the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
