Thursday’s preliminaries:

What ended up being the toughest relay record to crack finally happened almost eleven years to the day. On Thursday, the 200 Free Relay (Grant Rosenberger 26.58, Santiago Schutte 22.59, Noah Schenk 25.67, and Nash King 23.28) delivered the goods with a relay time of 1:38.48 besting the previous record of 1:40.36 set on February 16, 2013 (Wanstrath, Hockaden, Shenk and Pelzel).
OA Boys placed 13 of 20 on Personal Bests with two extended school records. Nash Finished 2nd in the 200 IM with an extended school record of 1:58.51 and 1st in the 500 Free at 4:48.12. Saturday’s finals:
In ’13, our relayers (only halfway through their single-digit years) were just learning to ride two-wheelers and navigate the school bus. On Saturday, the record was extended to 1:38.10 (Grant 26.60, Santiago 22.93, Noah 25.83 and Nash 22.74). The relay placed 6th overall out of 12 squads.

Santiago Schutte swam a 50.36 in the 100 Free giving him an 8th place overall finish. Santiago Schutte swam a 1:07.24 in the 100 Breast giving him a 10th place overall finish.
On Sunday, we learned that Nash qualified in the 500 Free for the Indiana State Swimming Championships!! He is seeded 13th out of 32 and will continue his effort to make the championship this Friday! We saw some very exciting 100 Free times in the 400 relay as well. Luke Hopkins 1:09.53 which counts as legit time since he led off the relay. Albert Hudepohl at 1:05.13, Rylan Hill at 1:04.64 (Rylan went a 1:24.17 way back at Richmond) and Grant Rosenberger at 1:02 30.

The 2023-2024 Boys swim season at OA is probably the most successful in program history:
1. We had nine swimmers this year.
2. Six of Nine are now school record holders: Sully Hill (1), Albert Hudepohl (1), Nash King (8), Grant Rosenberger (1). Noah Schenk (3) and Santiago Schutte (4).
3. Victories over teams never bested under the current coaching staff of six years including Batesville and Connersville. We also beat East Central in the 200 free relay prelims and were out touched by .05 in the 200 relay finals.
4. Tied for 6th out of 19 teams at Schools with No Pools swim meet in Indy.
5. 8th Place finish out of 14 teams at Boys Sectionals, scoring 112 points (previous best in our six years was 50).
6. State of Indiana Championship Qualifier, Nash King, in the 500 Free with a time of 4;42.42. Seeded 13th of 32.
Not only did they compete with some of the best teams/swimmers at the Columbus North sectionals, but competed against big schools three to four times their school size. Tremendous accomplishments by all swimmers in their individual events as well as the relays. Cutting lots of time, setting school records, placing in the top 16, making the podium (top 8 receive ribbons) and swimming on to the next level (State).
