(Batesville, IN) – It was another record-setting year for Cherry Thing-A-Ling sales at Schmidt Bakery.
Clem and Bertie Schmidt and company at the bakery in downtown Batesville’s Shopping Village sold 254,880 of the sweet treats – or 21,240 dozen – during online and in-store sales to the general public last Thursday through Monday.
The fritter-type donuts filled with cherries and topped with a cherry glaze are only available in-store during Presidents Day weekend in a nod to the tale of the first President of the United States George Washington chopping down a cherry tree.
Last year, Schmidt Bakery sold 232,380 – or 19,365 dozen – Cherry Thing-A-Lings.
