(Southeastern IN) – The heavy snow that fell across the area Friday afternoon into the evening led to a number of weather-related crashes.
First responders in Decatur and Franklin counties were called to 27 accidents each Friday through Saturday morning.
Decatur County Sheriff Bill Meyerrose reported 12 property damage crashes, 13 slide-offs, and two wrecks with injuries – one of which was a semi tractor-trailer on its side.
“All first responders in Decatur County, including Decatur County Communications, the Greensburg Police Department, all Decatur County volunteer fire departments, Decatur County EMS, the Decatur County Highway Department, and our local towing companies are to be commended for their quick responses to all of these crashes, attention to injuries and cleanup,” Meyerrose said.
Franklin County also had 27 accidents on county and state roads.
Dearborn County handled 14 crashes with numerous slide-offs.
And Ripley County dealt with 10 wrecks Friday evening.
Travel advisories for Ripley and Dearborn counties expired over the weekend, while Decatur and Franklin counties remained under yellow advisories, as of Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Update that was scheduled for Saturday morning at Greensburg City Hall was a casualty of the weather.
The Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled the event for March 16.
