Brother David D. Byler

Brother David D. Byler, age 79, of Bennington, Indiana, entered this life on October 1, 1944 in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Daniel J. and Saloma (Mast) Byler. Brother David was born and raised Amish in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania where he attended school. Brother David was united in marriage on November 23, 1965 to Sister Rebecca D. Kurtz in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. This union of over 45 years was blessed with four sons and four daughters. Brother David farmed most of his life and worked part-time for his son, Daniel’s business, Southern Hardwoods in Switzerland County, Indiana. The Byler family resided in Switzerland County since May 2009. Prior to moving to Switzerland County, the family resided in Lyndonville, New York. Brother David lived most of his life pursuing the truth. In the year 2009, God beautifully brought Brother David and Sister Rebecca to the glorious Church of God. His sweet spirit and delightful sense of humor will be keenly missed by his children, grandchildren and church family. Brother David received his new spiritual body and was lovingly embraced in the arms of his Savior at 11:41 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his son’s residence in Bennington, Indiana.

Brother David is survived by his children, Saloma Renno and her husband, Crist of Sinking Valley, PA, Daniel Byler and his wife, Sylvia of Bennington, IN, Emma Peachey and her husband, Crist of Interlaken, NY, Naomi Peachey and her husband, Samuel of Ovid, NY, Nancy Swarey and her husband, Shem of Mohawk, NY, John Byler and his wife, Katie of Mohawk, NY, Levi Byler and his wife, Rachel of Romulus, NY; his daughter-in-law, Lydia Byler of Romulus, NY; his 63-grandchildren; his 93-great-grandchildren; his brothers, John Byler and his wife, Esther of New Wilmington, PA, Amos Byler and his wife, MaryAnn of Clintonville, PA and Sam Byler of NY; his sisters, Anna Mast of Friendship, NY and Lavina Yoder and her husband, Mose of New Wilmington, PA and his numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel J. Byler; his mother, Saloma (Mast) Byler; his wife, Rebecca D. (Kurtz) Byler, died August 6, 2010; his son, Samuel Byler, died June 30, 2008; his grandson, Stephen Byler and his daughter-in-law, Malinda Byler.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Bennington Church of God, 14224 Pleasant Grove Road, Bennington, Indiana 47011 and from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Church of God Restoration, 5065 State Road 49 South, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, February 4, 2024, by Bro. Lonnie Bontrager, at the Church of God Restoration, 5065 State Road 49 South, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Interment will follow in the Church of God Restoration Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio.
