Indiana’s high school girls’ Sectional basketball tournament games got started for 2024 Tuesday night, and we were glad to bring to you 2 of them on WRBI.
At the Whiteland sectional in Class 4A, the homestanding Warriors were taller than East Central’s Trojans, and got out to a fast start, while the Trojans were very cold shooting from the floor. The final that ended the season for the visitors from St. Leon was Whiteland 52, East Central 23, the Warriors led by 4 starters in double figures. The Trojans wrap up the 23-24 campaign at 8 wins, 17 losses. Whiteland goes on to face Columbus East in the semis Friday.
The second half of our Night 1 doubleheader saw the 3A Batesville Bulldogs run out to a similar lead at Lawrenceburg, and dominate South Dearborn, 49-25. The ‘Dawgs face Connersville’s Spartans Friday evening at 6, while the Knights conclude a long season at only 3 wins, 20 losses. And at Southwestern Shelby in 1A, South Decatur was all over Edinburgh, 50 to 21, setting up a Friday game against Jac-Cen-Del.
Tonight, we have a couple local squads who’ve both had terrific seasons match up, and only 1 will advance. The 18 & 4 Greensburg Pirates will take on the 14 & 7 Franklin County Wildcats on that neutral floor in Lawrenceburg, in what should be a super matchup. Join Terrance Arney and me for the call, around 5:45 this evening in advance of a 6:00 tip, right here at WRBIRadio.com, on the radio at 103.9 FM, and on the new WRBI app.
As the boys continue their regular season, our only local score last night saw East Central beating Ross of Ohio, 51 to 38.
There were some big men’s college games played Tuesday, including 14th-ranked Illinois going into Value City Arena and knocking off Ohio State, 87-75. In Assembly Hall, the Hoosiers took care of business, narrowly dispatching Iowa’s Hawkeyes 74-68. And in Muncie, Ball State’s Cards didn’t quite have enough to keep up with Bowling Green’s birds of prey, the Falcons— final score Bowling Green 81, Ball State 72.
More college play is on tap tonight, as Cincinnati visits West Virginia in Morgantown, nationally 2nd-ranked Purdue hosts Northwestern, St. John’s visits Xavier, and Indiana State drops in on Belmont in the Music City, Nashville.
