JoAnne See, 90, of Lawrenceburg

JoAnne See, 90, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14th, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital. JoAnne was born in Aurora, IN on January 18, 1933, a daughter of the late Frieda (Whitaker) Bascom and Wolter  Bascom. She would have celebrated her 91st birthday with us this week. Now she will celebrate it with God, Jesus and her Angels in Heaven. JoAnne grew up across from the round barn next to the old Starlight Drive-In with her 8 siblings: Herb, Gene, Bob, EH, Pete, Janet, Lee and Joyce. They all loved playing in the round barn and their home was filled with laughter. She was a 1951 graduate of Dillsboro High School. JoAnne married Phillip See on September 26, 1952. They were married nearly 60 years until Phil’s passing on August 15, 2012. JoAnne and Phil made their life and raised their children Joni, Lee Ann and John in Rising Sun until retirement and then moved to the Greendale community in 1990. JoAnne was a hard worker and held several positions over the years, including: cashier at the local IGA grocery, telephone operator at Rising Sun Telephone, Ohio County Deputy Auditor and Real Estate Broker and Salesperson at West Shell Realty. She and Phil also rehabbed 3 homes in Rising Sun for resale. JoAnne was a member of the Hamline Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg and formerly attended the Rising Sun United Methodist Church. JoAnne also enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and tending to her flowers. Being surrounded by her family was her greatest joy.

JoAnne is  survived by two daughters, Joni Rucker and husband Oleith, of Dillsboro,IN and Lee Ann Eisert and the late Herb Parker, of Madison, IN; by her son, John See and wife Beth, of Rising Sun, IN; by her grandchildren, Ryan, Carrie, Abbey, Taylor, Paige, Keith, Kyle and Kevin and by 11 great grandchildren. JoAnne is also survived by a brother, Jerome “Pete” Bascom and sister in laws Evelyn Bascom and Nancy See and by cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Wolter and Frieda Bascom; by her husband Phillip J. See; by her infant son, James Christopher See; by her brothers, Herb, Gene, Bob and EH Bascom and by her sisters, Janet Bradford, Lee Bryant and Joyce Bascom. We love you and know you are happy in Heaven. We will look for your smile in all things beautiful.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, January 22nd at Markland Funeral Home.
