A Greensburg father and his girlfriend have been arrested and are accused of neglecting an infant child.
The accusations follow events that occurred at an apartment on 1318 Ingleton Drive in Greensburg on Monday, Feb. 3.
Emergency personnel responded to a report of a 14-month-old child not breathing. The child was later taken to an Indianapolis hospital and the current condition has not been released.
The child’s father, Foster A. Sawyer, 19, was subsequently arrested along with Ellen Paige Kenny, 20, on Friday, Feb. 14. According to court documents, both are residents of the apartment on Ingleton Drive.
Authorities allege that the child was placed in a situation that “caused the child to sustain abusive head trauma, resulting in a skull fracture, hyper acute bleeding inside the infant’s head, and irreversible brain damage.”
Sawyer and Kenny have both been charged with Neglect of a Dependent Child, a class B felony.
Both defendants entered a not guilty plea on Tuesday, according to the Greensburg Daily News. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for April 17 and a trial date set for June 12.
