(Milan, IN) – A Milan volunteer firefighter was recognized by his colleagues this week for recent heroic actions.
Officials say at the department’s annual Christmas dinner on December 19, a retired fire department member had a piece of food become lodged in his throat and started choking.
2nd Lt. Matt “Squirrel” Dew saw what was happening, sprang into action and successfully administered the Heimlich Maneuver.
Dew was honored for his actions and was presented a plaque by Milan Fire Chief Alex Hooker at the department meeting on Tuesday night.
“Our department and community is very blessed to have folks like ‘Squirrel’ serving,” Hooker said.
