Mrs. Hazel Eileen (Moreillon) Ballard, age 97, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on December 9, 1926 in Fairview, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Henry “Hank” and Gladys L. (Jackson) Moreillon. Hazel was a graduate of Vevay High School, class of 1945. After graduation, Hazel went to work for the United States Coast Guard in Washington, D.C. for nine months. Hazel was united in marriage to Rickard E. “Dick” Ballard on September 30, 1949 at the Fairview United Methodist Church. This happy union of over 70 years was blessed with a son, Jeffrey and two daughters, Lynn and Marsha. Hazel was a former employee for Data Processing Services Bureau in Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 1989 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Old Bethel United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hazel was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed camping, family gatherings and baking cookies at Christmas. Hazel was a wonderful mother, grandma, wife, sister, aunt and friend. Hazel passed away at 5:21 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Copper Trace in Westfield, Indiana.
Hazel will be missed by her son, Jeffrey Ballard and his wife, Suellyn of Indianapolis, IN; her daughters, Lynn Holliday and her husband, Don of Indianapolis, IN and Marsha Branson and her husband, Phil of Noblesville, IN; her grandchildren, Karen, Patrick, Zachary, Brett, Kelly, Bryan, Bethany, Kathleen and Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Adam, Beau, Drew, Parker, Riley, Connor, Sam, Maggie, Harper, Emilia, Charlotte, Athan and Evan and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry “Hank” Moreillon, died June 30, 1960; her mother, Gladys L. (Jackson) Moreillon, died August 22, 1997; her husband, Richard Edward “Dick” Ballard, died April 26, 2020 and her sister, Helen Marie O’Connor, died December 16, 2017.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Old Bethel United Methodist Church, 7995 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, by Pastor Adraine Rockhill, at the Old Bethel United Methodist Church, 7995 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.
Entombment will follow in the Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.
