Thomas ‘Tom’ Edward Volk, age 55 of Enochsburg, Indiana passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Texas on November 22, 2023, after he stopped to fuel up his work semi. The son of Don and Betty Federle and the late Sylvester ‘Vess’ Volk was born on October 29, 1968 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The honorable military sailor, served this patriotic country well with integrity for 4 years in the Navy on the ship USS Thomas C. Hart FF 1092. He was also a highly dedicated truck driver for Batesville Logistics currently and Hill-Rom in earlier years receiving many safety awards. He was honored to receive their prestigious million-mile award several times, totaling close to an amazing 3.4 MILLION SAFE, ACCIDENT-FREE miles!
Tom always said his hard work ethic was deeply rooted from his parents and grandparents and he always wanted to make all of them proud. This compelled him to have an intense drive to do quality work and to help others. His way of giving back to his family, friends and community was to work hard and give TIRELESSLY to ANYONE that needed his help, guidance or financial support! His family always knew of his never ending generous side but learned even more after his passing. The family has heard from many of you, and what he has graciously done for an incredible amount of people! It warms our hearts to know he touched so many lives, in such a positive way!
As most knew, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and had an intense passion for the outdoors and the preservation of natural resources. He always had a known interest to teach anyone about gun safety, wildlife and nature, in which he did for countless people. He worked with an Indiana arborist to grow much needed trees in our area. His heartfelt desire to preserve our beautiful nation is one that needs recognition, even though, his modesty did not prevail all these acts of contribution, until the end of his life. Tom also greatly enjoyed riding dirt bikes and ATVs with his family and friends, along with driving his Indy 500 pace car and Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Lastly his strong desire to have children was very evident, but unfortunately he was never blessed with children. However, that did not stop him from being a ‘dad’ to many, meaning that his nieces, nephews, friends’ children, etc. were ‘his kids’ (as he called it) and treated them all very much that way. His reflection of fatherhood taught others you do not have to be a biological dad to be a ‘true dad’! He helped teach, guide and give to innumerable kids and that was also a reflection of his Christianity and one way that God made him a father figure in his own way. He will be missed by many friends and family. May he rest in peace.
He is survived by his loving parents, Don and Betty Federle; his siblings, Steve Volk, Dr. Tricia (Daryl) Huffmeyer and Joe (Cindy) Volk; along with multiple nieces, nephews and cousins who respected, loved and admired him, as well.
He is preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Volk and his grandparents, Anthony and Henrietta (Picker) Volk, Edward and Edna (Forthofer) Riehle; and step grandparents, Roman and Bernadine (Raver) Federle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Indiana Hunter Education Association (IHEA) by bringing to services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1:00-4:00pm followed by a 4:00pm prayer service, with military honors immediately after by the Batesville VFW Post #3183 and Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271, all held at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, Indiana.
