As is often the case when North Decatur and Milan meet on the gridiron, the margin of victory was slim. A field goal was all that separated the Chargers and the Indians when the final bell sounded but that field goal was enough to grant the Chargers their back-to-back Sectional 46 championship. Described as a heavy-weight fight, both schools slugged it out to the very end. The Chargers got on the board first with a 28-yard touchdown run by Tyler Dean. The Indians answered a short 6 minutes later. The teams exchanged body blows in the second quarter but the Chargers ended the second quarter with a 36-yard field goal by senior Aiden O’Dell to put the score at 24-21. The Chargers and Indians would trade scores again in the third quarter but that would end the score extravaganza. The rest of the game would be defensive stands after defensive stands but in the end, when the dust settled, the Chargers hoisted the championship trophy again. The point difference was the O’Dell field goal. The Chargers next face the Sheridan Blackhawks for regionals.
