Brent Gutapfel, age 59, of Sunman, was born on November 4, 1964, in Batesville, IN, a son to Cletus and Patsy (Hill) Gutapfel. He graduated from East Central High School in 1983 and later from Hanover College in 1988. Brent married Janet McClain on November 5, 1988, in Manchester, IN.
Brent loved the outdoors. He liked to hunt, fish, trap shoot, and shoot the BS. Brent spent many hours at the family pond fishing for bass and crappie. He enjoyed farm and country living and helped load many loads of fertilizer at his dad’s business. Brent worked for Hill-Rom for over 20 years and most recently worked at Architectural Louvers in Cincinnati for 9 years.
Brent, Janet, and Adam loved their annual trip to Destin, FL. He also liked the wild boar hunts with his cousin, Dan, to Texas. Brent played guitar and (sometimes sang) in local rock and country bands in the 1980’s and 1990’s; notably ‘Rockbound’ and ‘Misty Creek’.
Brent was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church – Hubbell’s Corner. He enjoyed frying chicken for the annual picnic even though he didn’t eat chicken himself!
On Thursday, November 9, 2023, he passed away at the Waters of Batesville with his family by his side.
Those surviving who will cherish Brent’s memory include his wife, Janet Gutapfel; one son, Adam Gutapfel; parents, Cletus and Patsy Gutapfel; two sisters, Laura (Doug) Werner, Sunman and Beth Taillon, Denver, CO. He is also survived by sister-in-law Judy (Kim) Meyer, brothers-in-law, Joe McClain, and Jay McClain, 11 nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins.
Brent was preceded in death by Vernon and Helen Hill, maternal grandparents; Raleigh and Bertha Gutapfel, paternal grandparents; and James and Carolyn McClain, father- and mother-in-law.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, November 13, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church- Hubbell’s Corner Fellowship Hall, 12523 N. Dearborn Road, Sunman, IN from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the church and burial will follow in the Evangelical Union Cemetery adjacent to the church.
