(Dearborn County, IN) – A man from Bright has been arrested in connection with his wife’s death.

The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Mohamed Mondal called authorities around 11:49 a.m. Monday, saying he shot his wife.

Mondal was driving an SUV on U.S. 50 near the Indiana/Ohio State line when multiple police units responded to the area and escorted the vehicle to St. Elizabeth Dearborn.

Life-saving measures by hospital staff were unsuccessful and 40-year-old Stacy Mondal was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation indicates Mondal shot his wife inside the vehicle, which was also occupied by two of their children.

Mohamed Mondal is being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.

Formal charges are expected to be filed Wednesday when the Dearborn County Courthouse reopens. It is closed for Election Day.

Detectives from the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detectives conducted the follow-up investigation together. Dearborn County Sheriff’s investigators are receiving assistance from the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office and the Dearborn-Ohio County High Tech Crime Unit.
