Mr. Alvin Andre Lamb, age 82, of Aberdeen, Maryland, entered this life on December 29, 1940 in Madison, Indiana. He was the son of the late David Ellis and Anona Woodrow (Rayles) Lamb of Vevay, Indiana. He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Madison, Indiana. He was raised in Hammond, Indiana and was a 1958 graduate of Hammond Technical Vocational High School. Alvin attended the University of Alaska to major in history. Alvin was inducted into the United States Army on August 21, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska where he worked on decontaminating vehicles from agent orange. He received the Good Conduct Medal and served one year and eight months overseas. He was transferred to the reserves on August 17, 1965 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Alvin was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on July 31, 1968. Alvin was employed in logistics supply for Raytheon in Maryland, retiring after 25 years of service. Alvin resided in the Philippines, Alaska, California and Indiana and resided in Maryland since 1965. He was a member of Maryland Pre-State Treasurers Club and the Bernard L. Tobin Post #128 American Legion in Aberdeen, Maryland. In 1975, Alvin established the Maryland Artifact Recovery Society. He enjoyed metal detecting, photography, genealogy and going to the beach. Alvin always had a sense of humor and loved to make people smile and laugh. Above all, Alvin loved his Lord and Savior. Alvin passed away at 10:55 a.m., Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Perry Point VA Medical Center in Perry Point, Maryland.
Alvin is survived by his sisters, Anita Snyder of Plymouth, IN and Audrey Patton of Lawrenceburg, IN and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Ellis Lamb, died October 23, 1989 and his mother, Anona Woodrow (Rayles) Lamb, died February 24, 1995.
Graveside Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2023 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. Full military rites were conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396.
