(Versailles, IN) – Indiana State Police detectives are investigating the death of an inmate at the Ripley County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers say a 57-year-old female was booked into the facility around 3 p.m. after she was arrested in another county on a warrant out of Ripley County.
Shortly after arriving, the inmate was found unresponsive in a jail cell.
After jail staff and responding medical personnel tended to her, the inmate was transported to Margaret Mary Health in Batesville where she was pronounced dead.
Per normal protocol, the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office requested that ISP investigate the death.
The name of the inmate who died has not been released.
Toxicology results and an autopsy are pending but foul play is not suspected.
The investigation is ongoing.
