(Osgood, IN) – The Ripley County Chamber of Commerce held its 2023 Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner Thursday night at Hog Rock Event Center in Osgood.
One of the honorees was Hometown Hero Jimmy Adams, who retired after 40 years of service with the Osgood Post Office.
“I’m definitely proud to be called a Hometown Hero, even though maybe sometimes I don’t feel that I deserve it. But I truly and greatly appreciate the honor,” Adams said.
Local attorney John Schuerman, who has practiced law in Ripley County since 1972, was named Business Person of the Year.
During his remarks, which were mixed with humor and emotion, Schuerman said he was surprised to learn he would receive the award.
“They passed over me for 50 years. And I think they felt sorry for me!” Schuerman joked.
Jac-Cen-Del Jr./Sr. High School Math teacher Gail Mosier was presented the Educator of the Year award.
She thanked many people during her remarks and expressed special praise for her family.
“They know how important it is for me to do the best I can for my students, and have been very understanding about how much time I’ve had to sacrifice time away from them to help my students succeed,” Mosier said. “I’m truly grateful to them for being there for me and supporting me all of these years.”
Oncology nurse and Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Charlotte Norman was named the Citizen of the Year.
She said everyone has a desire to make their corner of the world a better place.
“But where to start usually starts them in their tracks. Can I suggest to you that you can find the steps to making a difference in three easy steps,” Norman said. “Ask a question, get a burden, and then go.”
The chamber also recognized board members, and magician Dan Dygert provided the evening’s entertainment.
