The Chargers earned the opportunity to continue putting “Chargers in the Barn” for another week with their 41-3 victory over cross-county rival, South Decatur. The Chargers offense rushed for 343 yards and passed for 65 yards. Tyler Dean led the ground game with 201 yards on 23 carries. Mason Morris was 8 of 13 with 1 interception. While the offense was productive, the Chargers defense held the spotlight, holding the Cougars to -5 yards total rushing offense on the evening. The Cougars, who entered the contest averaging 200 plus yards per game, could not find any room to breathe. Xander Jones and Kaden Scudder led the Chargers defensively with multiple solo tackles, tackles for loss, a sack a piece, and 1 forced fumble. The Charger secondary equally came to play, holding the Cougars to 112 yards of passing, 54 of which came on one pass late in the fourth quarter. The Cougars were able to score on the Chargers with a 24-yard field goal at the 6:01 mark of the fourth quarter, the first points given up by the Chargers in 17 quarters of play. The Chargers will face the Edinburgh Lancers in round 2 of Sectional 1A. The Chargers beat the Lancers 69-0 in their week 8 match-up.
