The Batesville High School Cross Country teams traveled to Shelbyville to compete in Regionals, and State qualifying meet. The rain all came through the night before and it ended up being perfect weather for a 5k race. There were 25 teams and 75 individuals standing at the 52-box start line for each race. With the boys having 248 runners in their race and the girls 239. For most of the Bulldogs, this was the end of their season, but for Kaylynn Bedel and Lexiyne Harris, they get to compete one more time, as they qualified individually for the State Meet next weekend in Terre Haute. Kaylynn and Lexi were one of the top 15 individuals not on a qualifying team.
The morning started off with the boys race at 10:30 AM. Batesville had one season personal best and 4 others racing their 2nd season’s or personal best. Overall, the boys finished in 19th spot, 1 spot better than what they were seeded to place. The Bulldogs were led by Jake Chapman, running a season’s best of 16:51 and placing 61st. Finishing 2nd for the Dogs at 17:50 and running his 2nd personal best was Cannon Clark followed closely by a teammate, Isaac Trossman, at 17:59. Ethan Rahschulte was 4th for Batesville with his 2nd best time of 18:22, followed closely by Eli Loichinger with his 2nd best time of the season at 18:30. Finishing 10 seconds behind him, also with his 2nd best ever time was Benjamin Adams at 18:40, and finishing out the varsity 7 for the Bulldogs was Jaden Basler at 18:53.
The girls race began at 11:15 AM and as stated earlier, 2 Bulldogs get to advance to the State meet next week at the Laverne Gibson XC Course in Terre Haute. Batesville was led by junior Kaylynn Bedel, running a season’s PR of 19:44 and placing 26th, followed closely by Lexiyne Harris in 30th place and also running a season’s PR of 19:48. Megan Allgeier was 3rd for the Dogs at 20:31 and racing a season’s PR. Coming in 4th and 5th for Batesville and racing their 3rd best time and 2nd best time ever were Samantha Adams and Bayleigh Demaree at 21:15 and 21:28 respectively. Running 6th for the Bulldogs and also running her 3rd best time was Charlotte Trossman at 22:20. Finishing out the varsity 7 was Isabel Raab at 23:48. These places gave the girls an outstanding 10th place finish overall! Congratulations to all.
