Geralene “Gerry” Grote, 80 years old of Yorkville, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Gerry focused her career as the quality assurance manager for a pharmaceutical company for over 60 years. Gerry dabbled in a little bit of everything as she was an artist and a world traveler. She loved to paint scenery on canvas and found success in selling her works of art. She and her husband, Joe, loved to travel and went to Hawaii three times, Alaska twice, Sturgis, and Rome, and took six cruises. Gerry was in a bowling league and enjoyed volunteering at St. Martin’s Church whenever she was able. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 452. Joe & Gerry had a love story for the ages; throughout the six years that Gerry lived at St. Andrews Health Campus, Joe visited her twice a day for breakfast and dinner.
Gerry will be deeply missed by Joe, her adoring husband of 32 years; children Rick (Debbie) Grubb and Deborah (Alan) McIntyre; grandchildren Brian (Katie) McIntyre, Sarah (Jeff) McGuire, and Brandon (Dana) Grubb; great-grandchildren Kylee, Ethan, Addie, Chloe, Harper, and Lukus; siblings Jack (Pam) Hinkle, Betty (Joe) Allen, Kathy Brock, and Margaret (Adam) Brown. She is preceded in death by her parents Dora & Anthony Hinkle and sister Bonnie Stamper.
Visitation for Gerry will be held on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Martin’s Church of All Saints Parish. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 pm. For those unable to attend, Mass will be live-streamed at https://www.youtube.com/user/aspweeklyhomily. Memorials can be made to American Legion Post 452 and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
