It took 10 innings Tuesday night, but the Cincinnati Reds (75-51) got the job done, earning a win over the Detroit Tigers (66-
78) in the road series opener 6-5.
Cincinnati did fall behind 3-0 in the 1st inning of the game before tying the game 3-3 in the 2nd, thanks to an RBI singles by TJ Friedl and a 2 RBI single by Jonathan India. Harrison Bader gave the Reds a 5-3 lead in the 3rd on a 2 RBI double.
Detroit tied the game 5-5 in the 5th thanks to an Andy Ibanez RBI double and a Kerry Carpenter RBI single.
The game would remain tied until extra innings until the top of the 10th when Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson knocked in Noelvi Marte from second on an RBI single to right field, giving Cincinnati a 6-5 lead.
Reds reliver Ben Farmer retired the side in order to give Cincinnati the win and earn his 3rd save of the season.
Harrison Bader went 2-4 with a double, a single, and 2 RBI.
With Arizona’s 7-4 loss to the Mets on Tuesday night, Cincinnati is just 1 game back of the Diamondbacks (76-70) for the 3rd and final Wild Card Spot in the National League.
